New and rebuilt Bosch starter for VW Volkswagen. We sell brand new Bosch starters and also offer a Bosch starter that has been rebuilt in the USA. We have sold hundreds of the USA rebuilt starters and feel they are superior to some of the cheap china copies. Original VW starters have a bushing in the transmission bell housing to center the shaft of the starter. If the bushing is ovaled out or worn, the starter will ground out and drag. The bushing is hard to get to when the motor is installed but should be inspected. I check the bushing when I have the motor out. You can insert a 1/2 inch tap and thread the bushing out if the engine is still in the car. Another common problem is if there is not enough volts or amperage going from the battery to the ignition switch and back to the starter. You need to make sure the starter is getting power. If you jump the terminals on the starter with a screwdriver, the starter will turn over if there is power. You can also try bypassing the ignition switch to see if it is a faulty ignition switch. Using a hard start relay kit or running a new 10 gauge red wire front to rear will sometimes resolve old wiring problems.
