Oem style IRS cv joint axle boots for VW Volkswagen should be replaced when torn or cracked. Cracked boots will cause the loss of cv grease and result in damage to the joint. Each joint requires approximately 3.5 oz. of Molybdenum grease. This is only to be applied in the cv joint and not in the boot. It is a fairly simple job to do by removing the 6 bolts on each cv and c clip on the end of the axle. Gloves are recommended. I always use locktite when reinstalling the bolts.
