This is a steel timing gear for VW Volkswagen crankshaft 1200cc-1600cc. This gear has 2 timing marks the will match up to the camshaft gear. This gear need to be extremely hot to ensure ease of installment. The timing marks go up. This gear takes a special tool when being remove from the crankshaft.
