If you want to leave the fresh air hose off of your fan shroud, then you must block of the holes in the shroud. The excess air that is blowing out of the fan shroud heater hose vents is the same air that is supposed to be cooling your motor. Running your engine without blocking off the fan shroud vents or properly installing the fresh air hose attached to the muffler or heater box system will cause your engine to overheat.
